a trip down memory lane

oh my funny home town, how i (mostly) love you so. not much changes here from year to year, but that's ok because its a pretty great place to begin with. i went for a walk in town a couple of days ago, and sort of feel like an alien here since its been a rather long time since i've lived here. this is stevo-renos, which back in the day was the cafe mokka and is where i met my beau essen (r.i.p) of 2.5 years. this is the technical university where i used to sneak in to visit one of my architect friends. here is the library, where all the alternative kids hang out, smoke pot and play tunes. this apartment building was once the ruins of hell's hotel, which burned down a few years ago when some kids who "lived" there forgot to put out a candle. down the street is the convention centre where the royal nova scotia international tattoo (which i performed in for 10 years) will be starting in a couple of weeks... here is the Economy Shoe Shop, trendy local drinking establishment... at one time, i knew almost everyone that worked here.

watching the news here after being is south africa for 6 months is nothing short of hilarious. making headline news the last couple of days? new legislation on where cats will be able to go and an obnoxious woman claiming emotional harassment for the lengthy renovations of her neighbors house. indeed, there is something of a lack of substantive material for an aspiring journalist here. but that's ok.
